Assignment 6
Descriptive statistics
Labor force participation rates (percent employed) and percent high school graduate in 10 states are reported below. Using the 10 cases below, calculate a mean and a standard deviation for both groups for each variable. (i.e. You will be calculating a total of four standard deviations.) Calculate manually using N instead of N1. Do NOT use EXCEL. (You will have no access to Excel, when you take the next test.) Do not use SPSS. (Your answer will be wrong, if you use SPSS, since SPSS uses N1 instead of N.) Follow the second table below to calculate the standard deviation for the first variable, Labor force participation (Male). Show your work. You can type or take a picture of your hand written answers and copay and paste them into a Word file and submit it to Blackboard after showing it to the instructor.

Extra Credit Assignment (Addition to Exam 2)
Bonus points: Maximum of 3 points will be added to your Exam 2, if you calculate the standard deviations of the two variables below using EXCEL. Follow the format above and make sure to show tables with the columns for deviation and deviation squared. Copy the excel tables and paste them into a Word file and show them to the instructor. Deposit the final version to "Extra Credit (Excel)" under the Content area in Blackboard. You can submit an EXCEL file without converting it to a WORD file.
See the following link for more instruction: ExcelStandard deviation (The column for Z scores is not required.)
